Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has signalled his intent to end his career at River Plate.
The Argentinian agreed a contract extension with the Camp Nou club on Saturday, keeping him in Barcelona until at least 2018.
But Mascherano has now hinted that he will seek a return to his homeland at the end of that new deal.
I m happy to have renewed with the club, he is quoted as saying by Sport.es. I ll play there the next four years.
After (that), I retire in River.
The 29-year-old, who forms part of Argentina s FIFA World Cup squad, began his professional career at River Plate before moving to Corinthians in 2005.
Stints at West Ham and Liverpool followed, and he has enjoyed great success since signing for Barca in 2010, winning the UEFA Champions…

Domestic football has been put on pause for a few weeks in favour of the return of the international break the first one of the new campaign. In the wake of the Euros and Copa America, as well as the Olympics, many would expect this to be a fairly inconsequential few weeks. Alas, the pandemic has ensured we have to speed up the process on the road to Qatar with Lithuania and Northern Ireland being two of the many nations attempting to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Lithuania
Between their Baltic Cup struggles and inability to ever qualify for the World Cup and Euros as an independent nation, we d say Lithuania have some work to do within the realm of their first team squad. They often seem scared to even…
As for the visitors, while many around St. James Park were left furious by the decision to replace Rafa Benitez with Steve Bruce over the summer, Newcastle really started to shine heading into the international break. Battling from behind to snatch a 2-1 win off of Bournemouth in the North East a fortnight ago, the former Sunderland boss has seen his side land back-to-back victories and they have lost just one of their last five Premier League appearances. Now scoring five goals in their two victories, including bagging a trio of strikes away at West Ham earlier in the month, the Magpies will know that another victory on Monday would see them break into the top half of the table. While Newcastle might be enjoying their brightest run of the season so far, there is no doubt that Bruce wil…

Opening up the weekend sat as high as third in the table, it is no secret that the Greens have a Champions League return at the top of their agenda. While Die Wölfe might have marked their return from the festive break wit…
Chelsea warmed up for Saturday s FA Cup final with a 3-0 win at 10-man Leeds United that edges Thomas Tuchel s side closer to Champions League qualification.
The world champions could have been forgiven for having one eye on their Wembley date with Liverpool, but they were in control and in the lead even before Dan James was sent off midway through the first half.
Dan James followed suspended team-mate Luke Ayling in earning a reckless red card, giving relegation-threatened Leeds a mountain to climb having already conceded to Mason Mount.
Christian Pulisic and Romelu Lukaku subsequently wrapped up victory, moving Chelsea in third eight points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham, who have three games to play.
A makeshift Leeds defence missing a natural full-ba…

Chelsea s search for a striker has come to a conclusion after their not-so-secret deal for Gonzalo Higuain was finalised on Wednesday.
Higuain, who spent the first half of the season at AC Milan, moves to Stamford Bridge initially on loan from Juventus, with Chelsea having the option to extend that deal for a fee of €18million next term or pay €36m to sign the player permanently.
With wantaway striker Alvaro Morata having struggled for form and Olivier Giroud seemingly out of favour, Maurizio Sarri has turned to a player whose qualities he knows all about from their time together at Napoli.
The former Real Madrid star has been one of the most prolific strikers in European football for over a decade so, with the help of Opta, we take a look at his scoring fe…
Some people are fans of the Los Angeles Chargers. But many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many more people are NOT fans of the Los Angeles Chargers. This 2018 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Your team: Los Angeles Chargers. Your 2017 record: 9-7. And if you thought the Chargers were gonna somehow shed their penchant for late-game dick-shooting in the course of moving to LA, you must be a member of the Spanos family. In their very first game, they had a game-tying kick whistled dead after the Broncos froze the kicker, and then had the subsequent kick blocked. In their second game, the kicker missed ANOTHER field goal right at the very end that would have won it. They also lost to the Patriots after their returner fielded a punt at the 11 and somehow tu…
data-mm-id=”_uegi2b19f”>Through 12 weeks of the NFL season, no teams have punched their tickets to the playoffs. The easiest route is to win the division title, which grants at least one home game in the postseason. Of course, not all divisions are created equal. Here's a ranking of all eight NFL divisions in terms of quality of play from their four teams, from best to worst.1. NFC WestIt's not even a contest. The West is the best. Well…the NFC West, anyway.Only in the NFC West can the San Francisco 49ers race off to the strongest start of the season, overpower opponent after opponent, become the first team this season to reach double digit wins…and not even have the division race in hand this late in the year. In fact, there's a very real chance the 9-2 Seattle Seah…
