Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool are in good talks with Emre Can and is confident the midfielder wants to stay at Anfield.
The 23-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £9.75million in 2014, is out of contract at the end of next season.
Can said this week that negotiations over a new deal did not hinge on money after reports claimed a previous round of talks broke down due to his £100,000-per-week wage demands.
And Klopp is also optimistic Can wants to stay at Liverpool for the long-term, with discussions still taking place.
Yes, we are in talks, said Liverpool boss Klopp ahead of Sunday s Premier League trip to play Manchester City.
They are good because Emre likes to be here. We really like him as a person and as a player. So there are talks, there is nothing else to say.
It actually makes no sense to talk about it, but because I obviously heard there was a story out there [I will].
Until the final year starts – there are a few months still – no problems, absolutely no problems.
Completely good talks [have been] held with a lot of other players and if there is something to say about it we will be the first.
Can scored the winner in Liverpool s 2-1 victory over Burnley last Sunday, his first goal of 2017.
Klopp s side have won three of their last four matches going into the City clash.
Klopp: For me, City is the most difficult team to play against. We know what we have to do.
